Workshops, Courses, and Mentoring

After two years “off the radar” while undergoing an in-depth shamanic initiation, L.R. Heartsong returns to public offerings of his newly expanded work. Options for working with him in a group setting include:

  • Workshops and Retreats

  • Online Courses  (coming soon)

  • 2019/20 Year-long Mentorship and Initiation

River has spent most of his adult life immersed in various approaches to healing and nourishment. As an instructor, he has over 7000 hours of classroom time and has trained literally hundreds of massage therapists and bodyworkers over the years at three different colleges. A practitioner of the healing arts for more than two decades, he is trained in somatic psychology and Hakomi Integrative Somatics (now called Sensorimotor Psychotherapy); as a body-centered therapist, he has worked extensively in individual and group settings, leading men’s groups, workshops and wilderness rites-of-passage work.

Deeply attuned to soulful nourishment, relationship with place, and sensate perception, River holds that nature and a conscious connection with the body (and its biofield) are essential to our re-wilding, healing, and transformation. He has recently begun guiding others along a shamanic path, including working with ritual, plant allies, and ancestors.

Workshops and Retreats:

Non-denominational and open to all (unless specified as a men’s retreat), these workshops were born from a sincere desire to help others embrace both wellness and soulful authenticity. A retreat with River combines twenty-five years of experience as a bodyworker, counselor and guide (workshops, men’s groups, and wilderness quests), along with the material and models in his book, The Bones and Breath: A Man’s Guide to Eros, the Sacred Masculine, and the Wild Soul.

Workshops offer the unparalleled opportunity to work with River directly in an intimate group, while also fostering a sense of soulful community and tribe. They are framed to include time in nature and being on the land. Interwoven with the workshop’s theme and daily teachings are experiences in movement arts and meditation, breathwork, Qigong, creative/artistic expression, poetry, guided imagery, dreamwork, as well as guidance in creating personal rituals for transformation and connection with the sacred earth. Some group sessions take place while outdoors, if possible (weather, privacy and other variables permitting). In all activities, there is an emphasis on present awareness and somatic embodiment, opening through the senses and heart, while learning to use intuition and the bodymind as a conscious resource for empowerment and embodied wellness.

Sacred Earth: Heart, Senses, and Soul”

August 14–17, 2018

An intimate summer workshop with L.R. Heartsong at historic Ghost Ranch in northern New Mexico, former residence of the Modernist painter Georgia O’Keeffe. This exclusive retreat is limited to 10-12 participants, and will be held at the secluded Casa del Sol on the property, situated at the foot of the painted cliffs.

This is the first opportunity in several years to work directly with River in a small, public group format. Set against the stunning backdrop of Ghost Ranch and Abiquiu, participants will spend three days deepening into a felt experience of soul and landscape—exploring what it means to be a “conscious evolutionary,” embodying the Sacred Masculine and Divine Feminine within ourselves, while deepening into relationship with place and following the path of the heart.

Year-long Mentorship 2019/2020:

The Hearthside School: Visionweavers, Earth Medicine, and Soul

For those seeking the next step in their personal transformation, a significantly deeper experience than a workshop or online course, River unveils a year-long mentorship program: a New World ‘hedge school’ of sorts, an immersive Mystery School.

Limited to twelve people, this special group will combine an online, monthly module along with four in-person, residential events (one each season, approximately every four months), which provide a highly experimental format in which to develop interpersonal relationships and build ‘tribe’. This is an advanced, year-long program for people already well into their soul-discovery with earth-based or shamanic practices. The collective experience includes group council, ritual, personal coaching, private webinars, ancestor work, time in nature, working with plant medicines, bridging to the Otherworld, and unrivaled access to River’s knowledge and experience of a soul-based, shamanic-inspired path through life. An application is required.

A new, dedicated website just for this program is under construction. Stay tuned!
